My experience when and after visiting Emma Gordon-Stables my Acupuncturist.
Just before my 50th Birthday I was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica (July 2000), and then later with Fibromyalgia. Changing my life completely from being a very active person enjoying cycling, walking and swimming.
All my shoulders, neck and leg muscles were affected. I was unable to do all the normal things we take for granted, although able to walk it took a great deal of effort and much slower, cycling was definitely out and even swimming was a problem due to the effort to get into and out of the pool.
I was on a high dosage of steroids of 5 years. These helped me to maintain a reasonable standard of life. Also tried several other forms of medication, which didn't help or had lots of side effects, more than the steroids.
I was getting to the state where I thought I would never be able to feel the same again after 5 years of medication. I read an article about how Acupuncture might help with my problem. I found Emma's number and called her. Emma took time to find out all about me in great detail. I explained all about the pains I had and where they were. When it came to having the needles put into place, I felt very confident with her.
I visited Emma fortnightly for several weeks and the benefit was considerable. My pains and tenderness grew less over a period of time. After several months I managed to cut my visits down and now after 18 months I am almost off my steroids and feeling great. No real pain anymore and am only visiting Emma about every 2 months whilst reducing the steroids to avoid a flare up. My energy levels are considerably better, I feel I now have a spring in my step and much more youthful. It's wonderful.
I highly recommend Acupuncture and the benefits are immense. It has made me feel great again.
I will continue to have top up treatment whenever I feel I need it.
